Radon Testing
Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas which is emitted by the decay of uranium located in bedrock in the soil. It becomes an environmental hazard when it enters buildings mainly because of pressure differentials that exist between the air in the interior of the building and the air in the space immediately below the building foundation. Radon causes an estimated 20,000 deaths annually from lung cancer.
EnviroPlan tests the air in the building for radon. If the property has a well, the drinking water is also tested. If levels are found that exceed EPA and state thresholds, we recommend that an appropriate radon mitigation system be installed.
Testing of the air is performed by a nationally certified Radon Measurement Professional who participates in the National Radon Proficiency Program (NRPP). He tests the radon in air using a continuous radon monitor (CRM) which measures the radon concentration and provides hourly readings on-site.
